GMC truck is is the world’s biggest truck manufacturer and this reputation shows in their lineup of passenger vehicles. They have a lineup of large and tough pickup trucks making them one of the top choices for buyers who wants a vehicle that can conquer not only natural terrain but also has good off-road driving capabilities. Their trucks are known not only for their high performance rating but more so for their size. The size of a truck after all plays a big role especially for those consumers who need a lot of space for their luggage. The size and the strength of the truck are also essential when towing is called for especially when driving on off-road terrain.
One such truck from the ranks of General Motors is the Sierra Crew Cab. This pickup truck defines large in its 20-foot long frame; it can come with an 8-foot bed if consumer opts for the Sierra Extended Cab Version. This vehicle has cargo space at the back of the pickup truck is good for those who need to carry around a lot of stuff. With the Crew Cab Version the space is down to 6.6 feet, but still offers adequate room for normal cargo loads. The shorter bed of this version is still longer and offers more space than some of its competitors.
Size of the truck is evident in its adequate legroom and headspace for passengers and the driver alike. The Crew Cab can sit up to six, thanks to the large space that is common to GMC produced trucks. Next to the driver’s seat up front, a bench is present with a fold-down armrest that can be converted to seat two passengers in the front except the driver of course. The second row of seating also has the same feature meaning three passengers maximum can occupy that space or the armrest can be folded to give more space if only two passengers are present at the back.
The enormous dimension of the truck means that it needs a hardworking powerplant that can give out high power output whenever it is needed. GMC has given this lengthy pickup truck with a massive 6.0-liter V8 engine that can churn out 345 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque which can power the truck through some of the toughest terrain. This much power is what EBC Redstuff brake components are made for. The powerful engine gives the tuck close to a ton of payload capacity. That is where its size and toughness plays a major part. And if the Extended Cab Version is the way a consumer wants to go, the payload capacity goes up to over one ton.
In spite of the trucks power hungry engine, its fuel economy is relatively better than similarly sized trucks with equipped with a V8 engine. It has a fuel economy rating of 14.8 miles per gallon on mixed driving, meaning both on the open highway and for shorter trips or city driving. The truck’s powerplant, though it is huge and noisy at times especially on slower speeds is much quieter than a diesel engine that consumers can also go for with the Sierra. The vibration of the engine and the noise it made though does not affect the performance of the truck and the comfort of the engine. This fact is due to the design of the body and frame of the vehicle. To add to the comfort of the trucks occupants especially on extended trips, the Sierra comes with an optional ride control suspension that makes the ride quite car-like.

Chicago Auto Show has this Classic theme. And Detroit’s Big 3 wage war over other automakers is actually to prove that they are worthy of amassing praises concerning the production of environmentally friendly vehicles. But General Motors Corp. is putting more emphasis on the manufacture of Classic trucks. At the prestigious auto show, GMC will showcase two trucks and a crossover sport utility. However, the most captivating model, as anticipated, will be the Denali XT concept, a hybrid pickup truck. The low-slung muscular car-based concept which boasts of its green credentials will be displayed at the show this Wednesday.
GM’s GMC brand has been tailored with a sophisticated expert pedigree. But in flaunting the Denali XT concept, the Detroit automaker intends to prove that GMC truck parts are evolving with time. The venerable truck brand wants to prove that improvement never sleeps.Warrack Leach, the Denali XT’s lead designer, described it as a Classic pickup for guys that pine for “a truck with badness but don’t necessarily need a truck everyday.” In other words, there are more things that the truck intends to offer. Fuel efficiency, improved power, better handling, superb ergonomics, and enhanced truck capabilities are just few of the features of the pickup truck concept.

The Denali XT’s new 4.9-liter version of the automaker’s V8 features fuel injection and active fuel management, which when mated with the two-mode hybrid system and E85 ethanol capability, delivers a 50 percent raise in fuel economy over similar small pickup trucks. Another milestone about the truck concept is the coupling of the automaker’s two-mode hybrid system with an E85 ethanol-capable engine. The concept’s new small-block V-8 features fuel-injection and active fuel management.
The truck is derived from the automaker’s Zeta rear-wheel drive architecture that serves as the underbelly for the new Pontiac G8 sedan and the upcoming Chevy Camaro. It was designed and constructed by GM’s Holden unit in Australia, where the notion of a modern truck that blends fuel efficiency, sports car handling and function, picture a weekend camping and racing across the dunes of the Outback - is more commonly embraced, reported The Detroit News.
Shoppers shift to small and fuel-efficient cars continues. As such, automakers are worried about the sales of their gas-sipping huge vehicles. GM was also worried. This is why the largest American automaker decided to tweak its truck DNA a bit rather than lose a significant slice of the market.

Published reports are indicating that General Motors will move up the production of their updated line of Classic GMC and Chevrolet pick up trucks by three months with the new models making their debut Some are calling this move an act of desperation on the part of GM which has been socked by extensive criticism over its product line, while others are hailing it as a bold, strategic initiative. Regardless, this is an unusual move for the world’s number one automaker, one that could help the company get back on its feet. Let’s take a look at the new Classic trucks and what they will offer to you, the consumer.
High gas prices, quality problems, and a perception that the company offers products that no one wants has been plaguing General Motors for much of the past year. With plant closures coming, layoffs pending, and market share decreasing, little good news has been focused on “the general” by the automobile press. Fortunately, GMC is battling back with fresh models set to be released including SUVs and trucks, which are th “bread and butter” vehicles of the company. Here is what you can expect to see when the new Classic Trucks enter the market.
1. Fresh sheetmetal. All new exteriors with a modified and sportier front end.
2. Modified engines. Traditional work horse engines which have powered Classic GMC trucks for much of the past decade are expected to return. However, displacement on demand technology, which shuts down unneeded cylinders at certain times [city traffic being one example] is expected to be incorporated on some motors. This technology effectively increases gas mileage without sacrificing performance.
3. New steering. Just as the SUVs will receive new rack and pinion steering when they make their debut in Spring 2006, the large Classic pick up trucks should receive similar enhancements.
4. Interior upgrades. Changes to the trucks interior as well as to packages offered will be some of the “inside” changes noticed by consumers.
General Motors has its work cut out for itself as an eroding market share is threatening the very viability of the company. Part of the reason for the move up of production is to thwart the new models expected from Nissan and Toyota that compete directly against the GMC pick ups. Both Japanese automakers have stated that they, too, are moving up the production of their popular full sized pick ups, therefore General Motors is reacting in part to their anticipated moves.
Beyond GMC trucks, the automaker will be releasing the Saturn Sky convertible, revamping its entire line of full sized SUVs, and overhauling several other lines of vehicles in a bid to win over customers.

GMC 4000 Pickup :
The GMC 4000 sustained a new, more modern look introduced by GMC two years earlier, but it was closer than the appearance of its Chevrolet counterparts.General Motors Corp. will give suppliers a major hand in the engineering and production of Chevrolet’s SSR pickup high-level GM manufacturing sources.GMC also redesigned its trucks, In differences were confined to minor variations in grille treatment, equipment, and mechanical specifications. Plenty of improvements went inside, too.Enough to keep brochure writers working overtime. Comfort and convenience got more emphasis than ever, and in future years the market’s demand for truck like amenities would prove increasingly important. GMC boasted of door openings inches wider than those on pwer models.
Dodge 3500SLT Pickup :
The Dodge 3500SLT pickup traced its design roots, when Dodge bravely risked an expensive restyle. Chevrolet, Dodge, and Nissan number among the truck manufacturers who have added four-door pickups to their lineup. While overall truck sales increased modestly in that devastated economy, the Dodge Series HC was exactly what the market wanted: The successor of Dodge Series , was little changed in styling, which obviously was the correct decision, but it was improved mechanically.A standard-wheel-base pickup , which happened to be the same price as a half-ton Ford. Prices were low, because hardly anything was standard.Dodge restyled the light truck line and rode to even greater success, but the recession cut volume short again. The Dodge 3500SLT pickup was clearly one of the most successful Dodge trucks of a dreary decade.
Mitsubishi Fuso Shows Concept of Its Eco-Hybrid Medium Duty Cabover Work Truck :
Mitsubishi Fuso has developed a unique hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).The new Fuso hybrid electric commercial truck combines a small, clean-burning diesel engine, an ultra-slim electric motor/generator. The result is a medium duty truck that achieves up to 30% better fuel economy in delivery applications and also produces significantly less emissions than its standard diesel. The new Mitsubishi Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid features a parallel hybrid system, that incorporates the company’s latest advancements to deliver ecologically responsible, economical performance. The electric motor is used to drive the vehicle when starting off. During hard acceleration, both the diesel engine and electric motor/generator power the vehicle. When cruising, the vehicle is driven by the diesel engine only, like a conventional vehicle. When slowing down or braking, the electric motor/generator functions as a generator to brake the vehicle. The generator converts brake energy into electric energy and stores it in the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery for the next moving off or acceleration. This vehicle shows the technological capabilities and environmental dedication associated with the Fuso brand.
